Hey, all.
So I've been getting these situations where my late-2012 iMac running 10.13 is running a little hotter than usual, and I've noticed (for the first time?) that I'm getting ridiculous numbers for mdworker/mds_stores. In one instance: mdworker 26.8% of CPU, mdworker 22.9%, mds_stores 16.1%, mdworker 14.8%, mdworker 14.0 % and mds 12.2 % (as found in Activity Monitor) and my temperature was 47º.
I tend to keep an eye on the CPU load because my workhorse struggles due to its age.
Now, from what I understand, Spotlight indexing can cause these issues. I never use Spotlight (which is a different animal from Finder's 'Search' function, right...?), so I looked into disabling it via the Privacy tab in Spotlight in System Preferences...but found I couldn't actually search for anything once I'd done this.
Clearly, I probably need more caffeine and a swift smack upside the head, but I sure would appreciate someone shining some light on this for me.
