Hi guys.

Currently looking at Mechanical Keyboards for my dorm room next semester... wish this black Apple Pro USB keyboard had a better typing experience as it looks gorgeous.

I want one most similar to the Model M, without the numpad, and preferably in black for around $100.

Anyone use something similar? All I see are the FILCO ones, and they all come in different mechanical key flavours. Any suggestions?

If you want a black Model M style keyboard for ~$100, have a look at Unicomp. These keyboards are about as close as you can get to a genuine IBM Model M. However, I don't believe they have one without a numpad. Also, they do offer Mac keys for any of the Windows keyboards they sell. I currently use a Spacesaver M, which comes standard with Mac keys (great keyboard, btw).

I hope you won't have a room mate, because these things are LOUD. :D
