So, now that I'm back to using my Lion iMac as my media centre I'm forced to look for a new Front Row alternative. I've tried a few and come up with a few pros and cons but haven't found one that works for me properly. Maybe someone can help me out?
I store my media on an external drive, not all of which is in iTunes, I used to create aliases in the movies folder to navigate to my media rather than using the official TV Shows, Movies shortcuts.
Front Row Enabler
Pros
Obviously the UI is perfect for me as I like Front Row as is.
Cons
Doesn't work properly with iTunes anymore.
Remote doesn't awake iMac from sleep once installed.
Boxee
Pros
Seems pretty
Transferable between machines
Channels/Apps
Files browser is perfect for my needs.
Cons
File browser has small font making it hard to read from a distance.
The Films and TV Shows sections only identify a small number of my videos properly.
Plex
Pros
Again - pretty
Can have Sky Player etc integrated - very customisable.
Cons
Needs a rather OCD approach to file management to identify episodes properly.
No File browser.
Only identifies certain items in my library.
So - anyone got a better suggestion? I'm just not finding the right option at the minute...
