When will Apple finally support the various media/ video formats on the iphone? They don't even support their own codecs like quicktime or h.264 unless it's compressed for the iphone as mp4.

There are now other phones out that even support divx and resolution independent formats. Why can't we have that on the iphone too?

I use a file-app on the iphone that allows me to easily transfer data from my mac to the iphone but i can't view quicktimes on it unless it's exactly compressed. It would be great if we wouldn't have to care about this like with images (no matter if jpg, tiff, pdf, etc. and no matter what resolution).

Don't you agree?

Well, the restriction for formats is due to the processor power required for the video decoding, only allowing certain bitrates keeps the device from choking on the video. If you try to view those files over the internet, they will work.
