I have a Macbook Pro circa 2006 2.16 C2D with a tiny 120 GB HDD that no longer suits my needs. It also seems to be running hotter and hotter (though, that could be a figment of my imagination). There is currently 6GB of free space left, even after moving my small HD video library and photos to an external. I have a large (and constantly growing) music collection which I store on the laptop because I have this thing about taking my tunes with me.
I wouldn't consider myself a pro user. 25% of the time, I dock with my cinema display, 75% I'm mobile (both living room and out of the house). I use the computer for web surfing, a few small apps (Twitter, iChat occasionally, Evernote, etc.), and occasional Photoshop/InDesign. I use XLD to convert audio files from time-to-time and Handbrake to occasionally convert HD video content. I also use the MBP FREQUENTLY to watch HD 5.1 content on my TV via DVI-HDMI and the optical audio out.
At this point, it's between replacing the computer with a new MBP or a 13" MacBook Air (ultimate config). I like the portability and the fact they run VERY cool which will make my lap happy when I'm on the couch. Anyone have any solutions for my media library given that the 256GB SSD will fill up pretty fast? I do have a 2nd gen Apple TV, but without airplay support for 3rd party applications (like VLC), it is used for Netflix and iTunes playback.
Maybe someone can sell me on the MBP, too? Fellow geeks, give me your $0.02.
