I have sided with the media all of this time because of Apple's silence. But I just watch the antenna videos on Apple's site, demonstrating the issue with other phones. I also cannot duplicate the problem on mine, which makes me believe Jobs' statement that it's a minor issue overblown.

I just watched CBS News. They did a lead showing iPhone early adapters in line for the phone followed by two complainers calling the phone junk. One man claimed the call dropped with his mother, then he was shown talking to her just fine with his hand not blocking the antenna. But they didn't mention that.

Next, they showed Consumer reports, the dropped stock and Letterman's jokes. But they covered very little of today's response. They didn't note the highlights like the fact that Apple was able to duplicate the problem with other phones by blocking their antennas, or the small number of called in complaints.

Instead, they emphasized having to get a bumper, then tossed it back to the guy with the dropped calls who had the last word, still complaining.

That was the story of supposedly legitimate journalists. Maybe Google wrote it for them.

I am more convinced by this slanted story that some news on the iPhone is a play on the popularity of the device. The negative sells, and they are more interested in that focus than fair reporting.

Some may not have like Apple's response today, but this report gave the impression that no one did.
