I was looking for a cheapie film/slide scanner for my dad (he's got boxes and boxes of slides and doesn't like to mess with his fladbed adapter) and ran across a deal for the Mediax WorkScan 3600 Pro at Geeks.com for $100. It sounds good--3600 DPI, and the price is right. But I have no idea if it's at all worthwhile in reality, and I can't find a single review online. It claims Mac compatibility, but Silverfast and Vuescan seem to support it even if it doesn't.

Anybody tried one? The sale ends today, so hopefully somebody runs across this.

Geeks.com also has a PrimeFilm scanner for $80 that I did find a few passably positive reviews on, but it's 1800 DPI so if the MediaX one is at all worthwhile it's a much better deal. And I know there are Epson flatbeds with similar capability--he's got an old one--but the good ones run upward of $200.
