yay ive arrived :)

got a new macbook pro 17 and i also got apple tv.

heres the noob question. i dont have a home network, wired or wireless,
am i able to wireless the macbook and the apple tv together? with out a router?

like can i wireless from one machine to another without and official network?

thanks

you can share your internet from your macbook pro to your TV by going into sharing in system preferences and ticking "internet sharing" but you have to share from ethernet->airport or airport->wireless so your macbook pro or TV has to be plugged in to ethernet for it to work. so plug either into your modem or router.

it would be wise to get a router as they have a hardware firewall and these days most routers have a wireless point so you wont need any wires!

well technically dont need to share internet as such??? just want to hook my apple tv to my macbook....

I am assuming you are connected using ethernet cable?

* Free solution
Go to System Preferences / Sharing / Internet
Change sharing source and to. Go to AirPort Options,
and set a password. Click Start, and Confirm sharing.
You probably want to turn off internet sharing when
your laptop is outside your house or when not used.

* Better solution
Get Airport Extreme base station. It has N, gigabit ethernet, and WAP2.

The process described takes 5 seconds.

You need something to create a local network, and you need either harddware (router) or software (Internet sharing).
