Hey all,

I have a pack of Memorex DVD+R blank disks and they will not work with my 15" Titanium G4 Laptop. Now, I know that I have a 1X drive and these disks are 4X but that shouldn't make a difference.... should it? Your input is needed greatly.

Thanks,

- MT

Yeah, I just figured that out.... Thanks. What the heck is the difference between the two types of drives?

There's the - consortium and the + consortium. Apple's in the - camp. Dell is in the + camp. The - format is supposed to be in line with what DVD video format, and is said to be a bit more compatible with standalone DVD players, especially older ones. The + format is supposed to be "better" for data storage applications (files do not necessarily get written sequentially, as is the case with the - format, i.e. + is more like a standard disk/floppy).

New drives coming out, in general, will handle both formats. I just bought the Pioneer DVR-107D (OEM version, newegg.com, $160). It'll do -R/W and +R/W at up to 8x (R media) and 4x (RW media).

Anyway, HTH.
