So my 2007 MBP died and I'm looking at getting a midrange new iMac 21.5. I want to bump it up to 16 gigs of memory, fusion drive and Apple care. My question is I see folks going with just 8 gigs of memory doing labor intensive stuff. I just surf, blog, and write sermons/lessons and video conferencing. Do I need 16 gigs? For my mobile side I have an iPad 3 and Note 10.1 2014.
Thanks for any help.

8 gigs is fine if all you're doing is writing and doing online stuff.

If you want 16 it's better to buy the extra 8 from Crucial and install it yourself (very easy to do).

In fact if those are your only uses for the machine it sounds like a macbook might even be a more practical choice.

Ah yes I forgot that is true for the 21.5" model. 27" is still user upgradable.

At any rate 8 is still probably fine.
