Memory Sticks weird thing

Hi

Every time I use a USB memory stick and delete a file from it, no space becomes available. The file is gone but it doesn't make any more room! I have had to run Disk Utility and erase the entire USB stick to allow me to use it. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

you have to empty trash before before ejecting the memory stick and you will see the space become available again
