Memory Swap

Please could any explain to me why my MBPR 15" i7 16G RAM uses almost 300MB of Swap? What I used for recently is only internet, excel and emails. Nothing much special?

Relatively speaking, that's a tiny amount of swap files. I don't know how much has changed in Mavericks, but in earlier OS X versions, once some swap was used, even if paging activity has stopped, not all the swapfile is released until the next restart.
