Has anyone noticed any specific brands, etc of memory that won't work in a MBP.

I've NEVER had any issues with the 4gb sticks - samsung, crucial, kingston.

Fast forward now. The ONLY 8gb sticks *16 gb total* I've used Brandwise is Corsair. The Performance ones and also they *mac certified* ones don't work well in the MBP. They fit but are just a hair too tight that the top memory won't engage in the plastic tabs on the MBP. HOWEVER, their valueram 8gb sticks fit just fine.

Nope. The memory module underneath is just a hair bigger that the top when pushed *up* to line up with the slot tabs - won't engage cause the one *underneath * it is pushing it out by just a hair.

Meaning the top module will engage, you let your finger off -- and it will pop right out due to the *tightness*
