I just ordered a custom built iMac with the base 1GB of RAM. So naturally, I want to boost the memory up to 4GB. Where should I purchase from? Crucial or OWC? Or does it really even matter?

I'll post from my experience that it doesn't really matter. I bought 4GB from newegg that was not specifically apple verified (or whatever you want to call it). I installed it and my mbp runs perfect without and glitches or problems of any kind.

Personally, I would only buy from a trustworthy source that offers a lifetime warranty. I lost data permanently because faulty memory caused file corruption on my hard drive. (The backups were just as corrupted). When I took in my computer, they diagnosed and removed the faulty memory and removed it--problems gone. After that, I bought from

Crucial - www.crucial.com

Another source I would recommend is OWC - eshop.macsales.com
