Memory with App. Store

With the new app store, how much memory, on average, would you reckon a downloaded app takes?

Im interested in buying an 8GB iPhone, but am worried that once I have all my current media on there, I would have no room left for apps, which I dont want as I hate having to take stuff off my iPod when its full!
