Menu Bar & Dock too quick to activate in full screen mode

I use full screen mode for much of my use on an MBA M1 13".

The Menu/Dock are activated almost instantly anytime my cursor goes to the edge of the screen. It's driving me nuts.

Is there a way to make it not so trigger happy?

Either a system preference? Or a third-party utility? Or a system file that controls this that I can edit?
