A while ago I partitioned my 300GB external HD into two parts. One FAT32 for general backups for my Macbook and Window Laptops and another to make a bootable image so I can backup my Macbook using SuperDuper.

Now I'm probably going to get a 120GB for backing up my Macbook and no longer need the space taken up on my first external, so I want to merge them back together. Is there a way I can do this using Disk Utility (or another program) without having to format the HD? As I don't have anywhere to put the data I have on it at the moment.

This can't be done in disk utility. There may be other programs out there that work, but why don't you wait until you get your new drive to make the backups and then you can just reformat your original HD.

The reason I want to do this right now is my Macbook's HD is running pretty low because of photo's and I need to free up some space.
