merging 2 partitions with files ?

Hi

I used to know that since Lion, it was possible to split a hard drive into 2 partitions or more without reformatting the drive

but now that i have this external HDD separated into 2 partitions with files on both, I would like to merge them back

will i lose all my data if i do so ?

Yep. You should move your data to another location, merge the partitions, then move your data back.

all my data on both partitions combined is about 2 Gb

nowhere else to put it while i merge the partitions
