Merging clips into a single movie

What should I use to merge clips into a single movie?

If you have quicktime pro, just drag the movie file onto the movie you are playing and it will tag it on the end.
you can then save the compiled movie as one file.
you can also chop and change sections before you save.

I don't have that is there any freeware I can use
