Hello all, I'm really frustrated because the albums with a same name are "merged" in one in iPod. I'll try to explain what I mean, but first excuse my English... it's not my native language. I hope you'll understand me and hopefully help me ;).

I'm using Windows and iTunes. In iTunes I prefer to view my song collection via the grid view. There every album is separate no matter if it has the same name and different album artist. When I use CoverFlow I sort the songs by Album by Artist. That way imho is the best way to view your song collection in CoverFlow, because first comes the artist and then the album... and everything from that artist is "grouped". This was the way I view my songs until I got my first iPod (Ipod Classic 120GB) two days ago.

I synced it... everything went fine, but when I decided to check out CoverFlow on the iPod I was shocked! The CoverFlow there was sorted by Artist... Not Album artist, only artist. That way my 3 big compilations (1300+ songs) were showing in 80% of the covers in CoverFlow. I sort of fixed this by marking all my Soundtracks & Compilations as compilations and now my CoverFlow in iPod is still sorted by Artists, but at least on the OSTs & Compilations I get them as "Various Artist" not as their Album Artist is. This is annoying but at least non of the covers are duplicated.

But here comes the next problem. I like to name my OSTs like this. The Album Artist tag is the Movie Name, while the Album tag is "Soundtrack". This way in iTunes works perfectly, because I can see from which movie each song is. But in the iPod the Soundtrack albums are merged into one in CoverFlow and in the Album view. This is annoying, because in iTunes they are not.

Anyone know how to fix this, except from renaming each album...

Btw. Is there a way to show the Album Artist instead of Various Artist in the iPod.

P.S All my songs have Album Artist tags in them.

Check the Sort tab in the tags of the songs (right-click > Get Info). You need to use the "Sort Album" and/or "Sort Artist" fields to define where the songs get sorted. I had a Soundtrack that was grouping some of the songs by the artist of the song rather than with the album, it turned out to be the "Sort Artist" tag causing the problem.

Not working for me... Let me explain.

I have 4 Soundtracks. For each I have in the Get Info/ Info Tab I have:

1. Artist [The atrist name of each song]
2. Album Artist [The name of the movie the OST is from]
3. Album [Soundtrack]
4. Track Number/Genre etc. are not important.

They are all marked as Compilations, because of the CoverFlow on the iPod to be able to see only 1 cover of that album.

In the Get Info/Sorting tab nomatter what I enter nothing changes... I still get the same "merging"...

It's a bug. Similarly-titled albums appear as one on the iPhone and Apple TV. The only app they remain separated properly are iTunes 8 and the Remote app for the iPhone. :(

The only way around it is to place the artist's name in brackets.
i.e. Anthology [Bryan Adams]
Anthology [.38 Special]

Is that bug reported to Apple? Because it's very annoying and they better fix it in FW 2.0.2
