Message app vs text forwarding

I am looking for the best all in one messaging solution when texting friends in a group chat that have both iOS and Android when using my MacBook. Oddly enough it has only been a couple of days ago that I discovered text forwarding to have those non iOS messages appear in the messaging app open my mac.

Seems to work great, but wondering if there are better apps out there (for mac) for this purpose.

After the whole Facebook reading texts issue, I’m looking into Singal. iMessage is great, but not everyone has an iPhone.

For actual SMS messages to your phone number I don’t think so. The Messages app is the only one I know of that combine those with iMessages.

If Whatsapp or some other service is involved you’re stuck with their app.
