Message Send problem non iPhone users

In the past I have been able to us the Messages app to send messages to non iPhone numbers. For some reason today I cannot. I get a red bubble that says number is not registered with iMessage

If I send a message with my iPhone to the same number it appears in my iMac Messages and I can then send but it still has a red bubble where the number is.

Here is the message I get.

Any thoughts.
