Messages app isn't showing my historical imessages

hi all,

i purchased a mbp 2021 14inch (running Ventural 13.1) and one of the things that i can't figure out is that my messages app only shows my new imessages but not any of my historical messages.

i have some historical messages from people who i've lost unexpectedly and would like to reread those texts, and it is a lot easier to on a mac vs iphone.

is there some kind of setting that i need to switch on to have my mac show all my imessage history and not just the new messages since setting up my laptop?

Yep. In Messages open its Settings. Make sure "Enable Messages in iCloud" is checked. That should pull in your old ones.
