Messages are not syncing with iPhone

Ever since I got a iPhone XR the Messages that I have read are not syncing with the Mac. Today for example I received 3 text messages and when I came to my Mac it said they were all new which is not true a I read them on the iPhone. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Try signing out and back in to messages. Also disable and re-enable iMessage in the cloud.
