Messages for OS X 10.11.1 and Facebook

Hi all
for years i've had my Facebook chat account set up in messages.
i know my settings/password hasn't changed, but over the last day or two, when i try to connect/go online with messages, it prompts me for my password for the chat.facebook.com account and while i know its corrected (double checked with what is store in safari/passwords) it won't accept the pwd.
did something on the Facebook chat server change? or is it just some server issue they are having?
anyone else who has this set up experiencing the same?
I can still chat via the Facebook web page, Facebook messenger (IOS), etc
