Almost everytime I go and switch to messages I cant just open it, and click a thread. It just gets stuck. by the time it catches up, I've clicked 3 times and now the thread comes up as its own.

I have an m1 mac with 64gb of ram, running the latest OS.. This shouldn't be the case.

Can anyone give me some suggestions to possibly fix this?

I have some apps running like Magnet, but I doubt it's that causing the issue.

Also finding this especially when I delete a thread and it shifts lower messages up. M1 Max Mac Studio with 64G memory. Appears this is a bug. Maybe report it using Feedback Assistant. If enough of us report it, they should fix it.

Only way to know for sure is to try without those apps running.

Do you have "Messages in iCloud" enabled?
I do, and i find its horrible. But yes, the lagging still exist with the apps closed.

and the voice note feature constantly gets stuck at 1 second.

I have had this for so long I just gave up on it. Messages on macOS has never been smooth for me. I just recently did a complete reset of my 2019 16” MBP and Messages is still laggy. I don’t even have that many conversations and like OP, every time I click on a thread there is like a 2-3 second delay. It’s ridiculous. And don’t even get me started on how long it takes to update and sync messages when I open my laptop after like 24 hours. It literally beach balls.

I had a M1 Max MBP when it first came out and it was the same on there too so I don’t want to hear it’s because I’m not on Apple Silicon. Apple software is just really going downhill.

Interesting, my M1 mini; M4 Pro mini; and M1 Max MBP all do Messages with no delay at all. I also use Messages in iCloud and up-to-date (non-beta) Sequoia.

Im noticing on WhatsApp now as well. I have to quit the app because I can't even click the subject line.

It would be nice if my images would carry over to my other devices on iMessage/iCloud. I rarely have them all sync.
