messages lost the ability to add a link?

You used to be able to add a link by hitting cmd + k. Yes you can still drag or copy a url, but before you could link to a file on your company server by adding file:// and dragging the item into the panel behind it. This is now gone in Yosemite.

Am I missing something? Why would apple break messages? It worked just fine.

Any solutions floating around?
