Messages partially downloaded

I've received a few emails on my iPad through my Gmail account which come up with this message at the bottom of the email: this message is only partially downloaded.

I get the option to download remaining but when I select it nothing happens.

I've googled this error and seen a lot of people have come across it but couldnt find a solution.

Also, I read some people delete the mail account then re-add it. However when I go to my mail settings my gmail account is greyed out too and I can't change anything to do with it and seemingly can't even add another account to my iPad. Can anyone tell me how to rectify this too please?

Is o one else experiencing the greying out of mail options so you can't access your account settings.

Chainging Mail settings may be restricted.

Go to General -> Restrictions and unrestrict Mail
