was annoyed that apple locked the messages app (so that, lol, it covered half the 12" macbook screen at it's smallest size). but i JUST noticed (in the current beta) that they've fixed it, and i can narrow the window again. progress! đź‘Ť

Maybe this is a limitation on the macbooks? On my iMac with Catalina and my mini on Big Sur, I can do height and width the same on each.
since the start of the big sur public betas, the height remained resizable, but the width of the messages app was about twice what it had been previously; this has been fixed in the current beta.
