Popular free messaging service LINE has released a new update to its iOS app today, bringing new features such as the ability to hold video calls with contacts cross-platform, and the "Snap Movie" function, which allows users to add background music to short videos and send them to friends. The app has also added a feature named "Albums" that allows users to create and edit photo albums in collaboration with a friend or in groups, and improved privacy settings in the Home feature, along with support for iOS 7.

Have you checked out the new version of LINE yet? Other than improving the quality of chats and voice calls, we have also added many exciting new features, including the long-anticipated video calls.

The new Snap Movie feature will be available first on iPhone. Create short video clips and spice them up with some music - now anyone can be a filmmaker!
Previously, LINE was ordered by Apple to remove its ability for users to purchase and sticker sets as gifts to friends, which was an important monetary source for the service. The app's success with stickers has inspired apps like Path and Facebook to use stickers, and overall remains one of the most popular apps on the App Store.

LINE is a free download and is available on the App Store. [Direct Link]

Another one?

There are no so many multi-platform messaging apps, I dont even know what to do. Several of them look pretty good, but the problem is, if other people in your contact list dont use them, they're worthless. Over half my contacts have iphones, so we just use iMessage and facetime. The rest have Androids so we use Hangout for them.

I have been using Line with my family overseas for a year or two now. Really like it a lot. I have been looking for better messaging services but so far none seem as good as line.

BTW, stickers are a lot of fun, without them it wouldn't be so good (we don't speak the same language and thus using stickers as emotes helps a ton).

Anyone have any other good suggestion?

Oh look, another unique messaging service that bridges the gap between OS platforms.

Yeah, but to be fair LINE isn't a brand-new startup. It's been around since the 2011 Japanese earthquakes and has hundreds of millions of users throughout Asia - largely thanks to its innovative features which IMO makes it one of, if not the best messaging platform.

The voice quality on Line is superb, too. Quite possibly the best iOS app ever developed in Japan.

LINE is okay, but the only people I've ever met that uses the program are relatives and friends that came to visit from overseas.

Is anyone having problems with LINE on their iPhone 5S? My wife is reporting problems.... trying to figure if it's widespread or just her phone.
