my girlfriend says ever since yesterday sometimes when she on messenger it goes off saying someone else logged on to it. she changed password and it happened again. is it possible to get a key-logger virus on mac? or is this some sort of messenger problem, has this happen to anyone else? no one goes on her computer.

No, there are no viruses in the wild that affect current Mac OS X. Also, keyloggers must be installed by someone. You can't just "get them". It's more likely that someone hacked her messenger account.

I suppose it's also possible that she's running two IM clients at the same time that both have her MSN account defined.
