I recently purchased a Mac Pro 2019 and an AMD Radeon RX 6900XT to go with it; I do a lot of graphic design and the CPUs in my beloved 2011 cMP don’t possess the AVX2 instruction set that Adobe CC apps increasingly require. I have it on my bench, in the setup and testing phase; I want to optimize its performance and iron out as many glitches as possible before installing in my office’s desk setup. To that end, I wanted to test the system's performance and that of its two GPUs. My system:
Mac Pro 2019 CPU: 16-Core Intel Xeon W
RAM: 192GB
Storage: Sonnet M.2 4x4 Silent PCI card with:
. 2T Samsung 990 PRO SSD (NVMe)
. 4TB RAID0 (2 x Samsung PRO 2T NVMe) MacOS: Sequoia 15.5 GPU1: AMD Radeon Pro 580X (8GB) GPU2: AMD Radeon RX 6900XT
OS: Sequoia 15.5
To test the GPUs, I've used a number of utilities; the storage tests have gone well and some of the GPU tests show a staggering improvement in GPU performance from the MPX 580 to the 6900XT.
I've seen references to MetalBench in threads on this forum. I found it on GitHub and downloaded its project folder but I cannot see how it is supposed to be run; there seem to be no directions on how to do so. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
