T-Mobile today announced that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in "select MetroPCS stores in Florida" beginning tomorrow, July 1, with a nationwide rollout expected to launch soon. T-Mobile acquired MetroPCS -- which is a prepaid alternative to traditional subsidized carriers -- back in 2013, but this will mark the first time Apple's iPhone will appear as an option on MetroPCS' plans.

MetroPCS is the flagship prepaid brand of T-Mobile US, Inc., and a leading provider of unlimited talk, text and data plans with taxes and regulatory fees included - there are no surprises, period. MetroPCS offers the freedom and convenience of an affordable, no-contract wireless service, riding on T-Mobile's blazing-fast nationwide network.
Specifically, the prepaid carrier will offer the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus for its customers, available at the price points of $649 and $749, respectively. MetroPCS will also offer the 4-inch iPhone SE for $349 and the iPhone 5s for $199.

Today's news comes over two years after T-Mobile said that it was "very interested" in bringing the iPhone to MetroPCS, without giving any hint as to exactly when it would make the move. Although owned by T-Mobile, MetroPCS runs as its own, separate brand from T-Mobile's "Un-carrier" services.

Until recently I thought MetroPCS sold PCs. I read it as Metro PCs. I asked a friend about it and he thought the same. Questionable naming scheme :p

Sprint used to brand themselves as Sprint PCS back in the late 90s/early 2000s.

My first cell phone was from a company called Sprint Spectrum. What we have today in Sprint includes the old Spectrum, PCS and Nextel brands.

MetroPCS customers can't afford $649 and $749 phones. Sorry but that's the truth.

749 is nothing. Why do people get so hung up on brand names though? It's rebranded T-Mobile service. The brand like all other prepaid brands caters to budget conscious people.

I wouldn't care if a company came along and called themselves ghetto mobile. If they had affordable plans with good service id switch lol.

Then again I've been with T-Mobile since 2002 and sprint called T-Mobile ghetto

In a way iPhones kinda are already ghetto though. They have the most accessories, therefore they're popular with people who have a strong sense of individualism. That means the person with a bright red charger with 24s and extra chrome, probably has a matching 6s+ in a red case with red rhinestones or something lol. That doesn't mean people will think you're ghetto when they see you using an iPhone

How good is the reception/signal with metroPCS? Does it piggyback on a good backbone? Anyone (especially in the Houston area) let me know if it is worth switching from ATT. I give ATT a ton of money and I recently retired and am adjusting poorly to living on a fixed income. I could use some money savings future plans with 7 iDevices all connected to the world

How's that visual voicemail?

Wife has no issues with it. I use YouMail myself. Only caveats afaik are no volte and no wifi calling

Not worth the ~$30 /mo price difference for us. Families with 3+ phones the math is more friendly for postpaid but having no drama over additional charges can be priceless

A friend had a temporary cell phone from MetroPCS while working in LA.

When we talked calls consistently dropped almost exactly after 15 minutes. We both joked that PCS meant "Poor Cell Service' :)

You aren't a bright individual are you?

Someone's choice of a carrier doesn't mean they can't afford it or else they wouldn't be bringing the phone to the network? If anything their users can afford it since they actually have to pay full retail. No eip or two year contracts.

Yes because a lack of visual voicemail is what defines a service as bad. /s

Want to be a troll somewhere else? Metro PCS probably offers financing or credit cards are used to purchase major consumer electronics.
People throw the word troll around nowadays like its nothing. Do you even know what it means?

Wake up pal. Have you seen who uses MetroPCS? Is there the occasional person who can afford a $749 phone? Sure. But by far and large the people that use metro are low income, bad credit individuals.

Sorry I call it how I see it?

politically correct would be calling Indians by the term Native Americans.

No my fellow member, you are ignorant :) Let's not mix a lack of PC with your lack of class and perpetuating unfounded and uneducated stereotypes :D

Not really. I know tons of frugal people that use Metro PCS. Another poster mentioned they use a pair of 6Ses with Metro. It's not a mere low income persons' phone service.
