Mic on 12" PB

Can anyone explain to me why Apple failed to include a Mic Input jack on the 12" PB? Why am I forced to have half ass quality when using Skype or iMovie unless i purchase something like the iMic from Griffen? And why is GarageBand not recognizing my guitar when it is plugged into the Line In jack?

Im not really sure on this, but can use the line in with a external microphone?

An iMic is cheap and sounds far better. PowerBook in and out have horrendous amounts of electrical noise.
