mic only works with headphones

Thought i would start a new thread as no help with other post... been on youtube for all the fixes with no mic working... well the mic only works when the headphone jack is plugged in, so on facebook messenger i get the voice input coming in... going out ok unplug headphone jack and no sound from my end anyone any idea
