As much as I love that face, am I the only one who had a hard time doing a quick glance to see the time? When the hands are in certain positions I have to stare at it to figure what time it is. :)

Me too! It was the first face I used but I had to give it up for just that reason - especially when it was between 4 and 6 o clock. I now use modular on a day to day basis because I prefer the clear and readily visible information. However, other people seem to love the Mickey face, so I often put it on to show the watch to others.

I keep going back to it every week or so, and keep trying to learn to read it and make it work but still hard.

Use one of the complications and switch it to "world clock" for your area. That way you'll be able to see the time until you learn mickey's hand positions

This. It's also useful for minimalist faces where you get rid of the dial.

I have the Apple logo next to the digital time on mine, using the same trick as monogram.

Paste it into My Watch app > Clock > City Abbreviations.

I couldn't figure out at first why anyone would want/need to change city abbreviations, then I figured out that it allowed you to do something like this OR it allows you to choose an abbreviation for a different city that's in that time zone. For example, I live in Wichita, KS - which is in the same time zone as Houston, TX. The next time I go on vacations I may set the "abbreviation" for HOU to ICT (Wichita's airport abbreviation) and set my home time as a complication.
