Micro sd card as external storage in iOS ?

Hello,
is there any dongles that work with all kind of files?
Does these need own app to copy files to/from?

Is Apple's own sd card reader and iOS itself still limited in files transfer, even after we got Files app?

My daughter got herself an iphone with small storage and she likes to make animations with it.
So transferring the materials through some cloud service is slowing her down...

there are usb drives that also have lightning connectors so that is a possible solution. But really, onboard storage is the only usable storage available. I would think SD is much too slow to be used as a usable volume.
