Who is still using a Micro SD card for extra storage these days? I've recently upgraded from a 2010 Air to a 2015 and I'm just wondering if anyone can share their experiences?

My 2010 could manage a 64GB card in the SD card slot (I have an original Nifty Minidrive) which was at about USB2 speeds. My new Air can take far more storage there and as its only got 128gb of storage I could easily add 200gb of storage via the SD card

But is it worth it? While it's faster than the 2010 it's not as fast as the USB3 ports and I'd be using it to store raw photos for editing in photoshop, movies, maybe my Photos and iTunes libraries...

Would appreciate any experiences

I use a NAS.

When storage speed matters, I store locally. Editing files and photos etc.

For watching movies, listening to music, archiving photos or looking at “processed” photos it works great. It’s more scalable and has got built in resiliency and I can access it from anywhere via VPN.
