I have a mac mini and was deleting the Microsd class 10 card. It took several hours to delete. I thought this was normal until I visited my parents house and deleted the card on their Mac laptop and it only took 2 seconds. I then tried it on my brothers mac laptop and it also took only 2 seconds. Why is my computer so slow, and how do I fix this.

Did you delete the exact same things off the sd card on each of the computers?

If you were deleting all the stuff from your sd card. Did you select all then click delete, or did you just format it?

Also what sized sd card was it? something like a 32GB?

Anyway, I'd format your sd card, then get a few files like a couple of films, and a few mp3s. Stick them on the sd card and then select them and delete them, and see how long that takes. Then format the sd card again, and stick the exact same files on it and try deleting them on another computer.

If they delete around the same time, then I'd guess maybe you had some corrupt data or something on your card before. If it's still slower when deleting on your mac, then I guess it's something wrong with the mac. Maybe a dodgy usb port, or the drivers (assuming you are using a usb sd card reader). Maybe try sticking it in a few different usb ports to see if that makes a difference.

If you aren't using a usb sd card reader, maybe try 1 and see if that makes a difference.

The card is a 32gb card, and I used the same exact card and card reader on all three computers. I have tried other use ports on my computer and all three ports took just as long. When I deleted the movies I dragged them into the trash, then emptied the trash. I did it the same on all three computers as well. I am baffled.

Maybe the Mac mini did a Secure Empty Trash, just look at the Preferences of Trash:

simsaladimbamba,
that did the trick. I knew it had to be a setting, but I didn't have a clue. Now the disk deletes in about a second. Thank you, your a genius.

mac taking a long time to format micro sd card

so, today i bought a new micro SD card and its capacity is 2GB. The minute i insert the thumbdrive into the USB hub the mac tells me that its not supported. so i formatted it to MS-DOS (FAT) and its taking an extremely long time. The bar is half-filled and it hasn't moved for half an hour. Also, the estimated time keeps increasing. its not my finder preferences because i checked and the trash is not being emptied securely

Hi Vickiiilee, I'm experiencing exactly the same with a 32gb Sd Card, not it says 5 hours for Partitioning time. How did it go with you?

Thank you a lot!

hi, so i tried to format my sd card on my mac, and it was taking extremely long, so i decided to go out for a bit. i came home 8 hours later only to find that it had not made any progress. So i tried formatting another SD card i used for the R4 cartridge for my nintendo DS. it was corrupted, so i decided why not give it a try. so i managed to format the SD card to FAT32 on my mac and it started working again!
