Hi guys,

So I've got a Lexar MicroSD card that I need to read. I had it in my GoPro but I've managed to break that so need to read the files on my iMac directly. I have a USB plug for the SD card but when I insert it I get "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer".

I'm working on the following iMac:
OS X
Version 10.9.5
Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i%
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

The details of the SD card are:

Disk Description : Lexar microSD RDR Media
Total Capacity : 32.03 GB (32,026,656,768 Bytes)
Connection Bus : USB
Write Status : Read/Write
Connection Type : External
S.M.A.R.T. Status : Not Supported
USB Serial Number : 000000070717
Partition Map Scheme : Unformatted

I have previously taken videos / picture from the SD card when it was connected via the GoPro so not sure why this isn't working.

Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks

Dan

It looks like the card is unformatted.

You may want to try a utility like Data Rescue to recover the data.

Thanks - can you advise where I can find Data Rescue? Would it already be on my iMac or is this something I'll have to get from the web? Sorry, rather un-techy...

you said you are using a sd card reader connected to the usb port.

the two things you need to rule out before proceeding any further ( data rescue ) is:

1. is this sd card readable in another computer, like a windows pc??

2. how old is your sd card reader?
sd cards greater then 2gb are only readable by newer sd card readers. you need to check the reader to make sure it is compatible with SDHC/SDXC.

i have printers that are relatively new here and they aren't even SDHC/SDXC compatible

if you have a mac with a built in sd slot, then #2 does not apply. i think all macs are SDHC/SDXC compatible.

( insert long rambling post about how great compact flash was here )
