MicroCrap Messenger Problem

I don't know how to properly explain, but the problem is that every time after I hit enter for send during chatting, I have to reclick the type-box again to type. This started happening yesterday, but before then it was fine.
Btw, I'm using Messenger 7.0.2.

Is there a fix to this? If not, please suggest a MSN-alternative. I've tried Adium, but the I don't really like the interface, and it does not allow me to see the people offline.

Second: Adium possibly has the most customizable interface of all apps. Just take half an hour to tweak it to your needs. And yes, you can see all your offline contacs (View >> Show offline contacts).
