I remember all the hoopla around win 95, 98, 2000, and XP. There was a lot of positive coverage of these releases.

I can't ever remember such scathing negative coverage of the *release* of a new MS OS.

Perhaps I'm getting forgetful in my old age? Was there any?

Was there the big hype over Vista that XP had, I remember a lot of excitement when XP was released.

Millenium Edition. ;)

Win Me was released after Win2000. It was always intended to be a home system, and I think there wasn't so much criticism on its actual release.

The real slagging off started after a few months, when people started using it. MS only sold it for a single year before dumping it :D

Good call tho. From WP:

In 2006, PCWorld declared Windows Me the fourth "Worst Tech Product of All Time" (after AOL, RealPlayer, and Syncronys SoftRAM) because of various technical issues.
