I was skyping with a friend today and randomly my microphone stopped working. They can still hear me typing and moving around, but cannot hear me talking. I tried blowing on the area where the microphone is, and also used a hairdryer to see if there was any dust suck, but no luck. Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

Check System Preferences > Sound > Input or OPTION/Alt click the sound/volume icon in the Menu Bar and tell us, what is listed and checked as Input Device.

The internal microphone is the input device. It's strange though, i'm looking at the input level bar in the sound settings and it's picking up the noise i make as i type or watch a video, but when i try speak it just doesn't seem to recognise it.

Thanks for trying to help! :)
