Microphone not working intermittently

I have two Apple displays, one ACD and one TCD. I have both connected to my nMP via Displayport/Thunderbolt.

Most things work fine, but when I try and FaceTime it is only about half the time the microphone is working. I see the "responsebar" in Sound is moving, and it seems to be working, but not in FaceTime. I reboot and all is fine.

Anyone?
