Microphone trouble for talk to text - anyone else?

For a while now, I’ve been experiencing issues when I click my mic to use talk to text. It’s like it doesn’t register and just shuts right off. It doesn’t do it every time, but I’d say two out of three times when I click it, it just goes off and I realize it hasn’t recorded a dang thing after I’ve spoken half a paragraph.

I’m completely updated (and this was an issue before and since I’ve updated to iOS 12). I just didn’t know if it was a known issue, or something just with my phone.

Well, this appears to be getting worse and not better. Yesterday probably every other time I tried to use it, it clicked off within a second.

I wish I knew if it was a hardware or software issues, or if others have ever had this issue.
