Okay, so here is my deal:

I recently bought one of these to do interviews via my iPhone (I'm using it for news-reporting).

I'm using a simple lavaliere microphone with it, and a simple pair of headphones. When I use it on my summer 2011 Mbp it works fine, but plugging it into my 4S gives me problems (it doesn't take any audio in at all).

Any ideas? I'm pretty desperate at this time. Also, my phone is running iOS 5.0.1. Am I missing a setting? Is my adapter a dud? Any help at all is appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

edit; Just read this:
"That is because Apple does not follow the industry standard for tip, ring, ring, sleeve (TRRS) so no product designed to those industry standards will work with Apple's iPhone products. Normal configuration is: Tip - left audio; Ring 1 - right audio; Ring 2 - microphone; Sleeve - ground. Apple, being innovative, reversed the last two. Their configuration is: Tip - left audio; Ring 1 - right audio; Ring 2 - ground; Sleeve - microphone."
