I recently installed Microsoft Office from app store thinking updates would come through app store. Yet today this popped up on my mac. I'm on Catalina. I had not installed Office on this MacBook Pro before so there is no way I had this from any previous installation. Is this some recent change? Isn't it supposed to receive updates through app store?

If you click on the down arrow in Autoupdate you’ll see what it’s trying to install. If you’ve installed Office apps from the App Store, they’re not updated with Microsoft Autoupdate.

You probably have Edge browser installed?

You may know MS Office updates once month, around 10th-14th of the month. Unless you have Microsoft Edge, it updates more frequently. Probably want you are seeing.
