Microsoft bracing for EU ruling

Microsoft is set to face a series of heavy fines and other penalties as a Brussels antitrust probe of the US software giant nears its close.

The EU advisory panel of national antitrust experts is scheduled to make its decision on Monday.

Reports say Microsoft will be forced to share proprietary details with rivals and provide a second, stripped-down version of its Windows system.

Monday's decision will pave the way for a final announcement later in March.

The advisory panel's latter demand would allow rival brands of audiovisual software to be built into Microsoft's Windows operating system.

The panel is also expected to endorse a fine of hundreds of millions of euros against Microsoft, although not until its second and final meeting scheduled for 22 March.

Now they have HP selling PC's loaded with Turbolinux and it looks good.
