So at the web office I work on campus, they re-imaged our machines finally with Windows XP and a fat bundle of beautiful software (CS2, MX 2004, etc.), but out LCDs were looking hella fuzzy. At first I thought that it was because the techs hadn't set the displays back to native res, and an LCD interpolating a lower res is always hideous. After cranking the res back up though, the text still seems shockingly out of whack. After about 30 minutes of churning through utterly confusing preference panes and worthless help docs, I finally found what I was looking for. Microsoft ClearType text alaising preferences. As soon as I disabled ClearType, the on screen type suddenly became clear.

Code:
if(softwareCompany == "Microsoft") {
ClearType != "clear type";
