There's a new version of Messenger. Now you can connect to people that are not on the Passport network.

Other than that, nothing has changed. In fact, they didn't even bother to change this into a Universal app.

This version of messenger (5.1.1) has been out since the 28th of March:confused:

Microsoft Messenger is really crap. I found MSN Messenger 7 on Windows way better. Anyone know of something like MSN 7?

although the microsoft mac messenger lacks a lot of features and is seriously outated, the reason why i prefer it over the windows version is that it does have the features that i need, like file transfer, display picture, and a really simple ad-less interface. it was only recently that the program refuses to let you log in unless you upgrade.

Hiya
Help needed

My version of msn automatically updated to 5.1.1 yesterday. However it wont let me sign in.
I've tried making sure my passwor/email are correct. It keeps saying either that the network is down or I may be not connected to the internet, or that the name doesnt exist.
Is anyone else having a problem with it? I cant find anything that could cause it not to work.
Please get back to me

thanx

The network at their end was down for a few days. MSN Messenger 8 was going out as updates I guess.

ok. Is it still down tho cus it's still not signing in.
Update for MSN Messenger rolled out in the last few days on auto update, you need the update in order to use it. Have you updated?

Someone said the new version has been out since March, that's version 5.1.0, this is version 5.1.1.

It has been out since March and I've had it since then, if you look on the mactopia website it clearly states the release date as the 03/28/2006.

Have you trashed it and downloaded it again, that worked when I had this problem.

yep tried that too. I've re-downloaded it a few times. The firewall isnt on, the name is correct, ive tried a different email address, I've tried older versions but they no longer work and are too outdated.

I've run out of things to try.

Are you deleting all the Microsoft Messenger files? not just the app, but all the Preferences, just a idea?

Bouncing

I just downloaded Mac Messenger 5.1.1 today. The app works fine. But when I try to go directly to a hotmail inbox from it, my password is requested by the web page. I enter it correctly and it just bounces me back to the same sign in page every time?

it's not msn messenger, it's the fact that microsoft has this weird live feature that safari is having problems with. use another browser to view the mailbox. i'm very annoyed by this too.
